The pilot unit allows long term testing accurately displaying key process parameters by means of the PLC in the operator panel in conjunction with carefully selected field instruments and control valves. This gives significant advantages in scale up compared with manually controlled pilot units.

Membrane design

The area of the spiral wound membrane ranges from approx. 3‐7 m2 depending on membrane brand, type and thickness of the feed spacer.

The P&F loop is configured with 2.25 m2 membrane area in one section.

System design

  • Aimed at ultrafiltration of viscous (fermented) products
  • Two loops; loop 1 with two parallel 3.8” spiral wound membranes. Loop 2 is a P&F module with positive displacement pump. The loops can be operated in series or individually
  • Suitable for e.g. quark, cream cheese, protein standardization
  • Includes mixer for uniform feed inlet and retentate cooler for improved product quality
  • The product solids are regulated by ratio control
  • Feed inlet flow ranges: 100 – 400 lph

The control panel provides automatic continuous control of various process parameters and allows selection between different control modes:

  • Feed flow
  • Feed pressure
  • Temperature
  • Concentrate ratio control

  • Cooling water 1° C, up to 3 m3/h depending on process and CIP temperature
  • Steam, low pressure, up to 100 kg/h (or hot water)
  • CIP water up to 15 m3/h depending on type and number of membranes
  • Please note our specific water requirements, available on request
  • Drain capacity up to 15 m3/h
  • CIP volume approx. 250 liters
  • Shaft seal water up to 0.2 m3/h
